Waltz of the Jester (2023)
Waltz of the Jester is based on a dream that I had. One night as I slept I dreamt of a Jester, but he wasn’t necessarily all that jolly and happy. The dream began with him performing in a king’s court. He was dancing around and making all the people in the court laugh. After he finished his performance, he then found himself walking to his quarters. The longer he walked the more tired he became. When he arrived in his quarters, it was empty. Not a bed, nor clothes, not even a light. The jester laid ready for bed, crying, thinking about how sad he thought his life was. He brought so much joy to others and yet struggled to find it for himself. The dream continues with him waking up and starting a new day in the king’s court making people laugh all over again. The work is a reflection of that dream.
The world premiere of this piece was on February 11th, 2024. It was performed by Wyatt Anderson, Reagen Simmons, Austin Horne, and Jackson Penso at Enterprise State Community College.
