The Lost Fugue (2023)
The Lost Fugue is a marimba quartet that was composed in 2023. This piece explores the concept of a fugue, taking a slightly unconventional approach. It starts off in a traditional fugue style but gradually evolves into something more expansive. By the end of the composition, it transitions from a mysterious fugue to a lively dance. The marimbas intertwine with each other throughout, creating energetic, intense, and exciting sounds for the audience.
This composition is dedicated to Caitlin Chavers, Jacob Ammons, and Jordan Powers. During my time as an undergraduate student, I had the pleasure of performing many pieces with this quartet and each performance was truly memorable. As I wrote this piece, I found myself reminiscing about our time together and realized that I was creating it with us in mind for future performances.
