The Lost Fugue (Score Only)
The Lost Fugue is a marimba quartet that was written in 2023. This piece features the idea of a fugue, but one that is a little bit weird. It opens like a traditional fugue, but slowly loses its way by the end of the composition and develops into something larger. It transforms from a mysterious fugue into an almost dance by the end of the work. The marimbas are constantly weaving in and out of each other and the sounds that are created are sure to bring energy, intensity, and excitement to your audience.
This work is dedicated to Caitlin Chavers, Jacob Ammons, and Jordan Powers. During my time as an undergrad student, I got to perform many pieces with this quartet and every piece we played, I had the time of my life. As I was writing this, I thought about that quartet a lot and how much all three of them mean to me and I realized that I was really writing this for us to perform.
